Abstract: New and non-conventional methods of obtaining cellulose-based cation-exchanger enterosorbents using nitrogen(IV) oxide are discussed. The enterosorbents are characterized by microcrystalline morphology, enhanced stability, whiteness and gel-forming ability. Based on X-ray phase analysis data, the modification of cellulose microcrystals with carboxyl groups is found to be of topochemical character, and the fact of easy formation of hydrogels from the preparations in the salt form is explained. Exemplified by sorption of methylene blue, a comparative evaluation is made as to sorption activity of the acid and salt forms of the enterosorbents in powder and hydrogel preparation versions.
