Abstract: In the present work interaction of indole, serotonin, melatonin, harmane, harmine, harmaline with α-hydroxyethyl radicals was studied by the means of steady-state radiolysis and material initiation methods. The enthalpies of H-atom addition to double bonds of the compounds were calculated using the density functional theory. Experimental and computational methods indicate that harmane, harmine, harmaline are able to oxidize, serotonin – reduce and add α- hydroxyethyl radicals; melatonin and indole show low reactivity towards this particles.
